Hiking Trails

Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula is home to dozens of nature areas, wildlife sanctuaries, and preserves protected by several conservation organizations and government entities.  These groups have protected this land so that the public can enjoy these beautiful areas for years to come.  Residents and visitors to the Keweenaw are welcome to explore these sanctuaries and preserves but please “leave only footprints, take only pictures.”

You’ll find hiking trails along the Lake Superior shoreline and ones that lead up to high scenic overlooks showcasing the Keweenaw in a rather majestic way.  Clear your head and enjoy seeing wildflowers that grow only in this region or do some bird watching.  The backwoods of the Keweenaw is something spectacular to see especially in the fall color season.

Most hiking trails are open year round so you can even grab your snowshoes and experience the solitude of the Keweenaw in it’s winter glory.
