Description
Built in 1898, the Quincy Smelter is the only existing early 20th century copper smelter in the country.  Go through the massive buildings on the Portage Canal in the heart of Hancock and Houghton.  Our tours will show you through the smelter, seeing the machinery and furnaces that turned ore into copper ingots.  Rescued from oblivion in 2007, we are open from June through the fall color season.  Check the Keweenaw Visitor Bureau calendar for tour dates.
