Description
Founded in 2006, the 26-acre Boston Pond Nature Area was acquired by the Keweenaw Land Trust to create a nature area at a highly visible location along the US-41 Copper Country Trail National Scenic Byway. As part of the KLT's Corridor Initiative, the Boston Pond Nature Area offers the public a chance to visit the southern shore of Boston Pond, surrounded in part by Michigan DNR lands.  The nature area keeps much of the shore of Boston Pond wild and undeveloped, with rich wetlands providing habitat for a multitude of fish and bird species.

The nature area has a parking area just off of US-41 near the airport.  Look for a large sign on the side of the highway and pull into the circle drive.  A universally accessible trail will lead you to a large pavilion available on a first-come, first-serve basis complete with picnic tables and a nearby vault toilet.  The accessible trail leads down to a lookout platform on Boston Pond, where visitors can view wildlife or relax and fish.  Additional hiking paths lead through the forest and along the shoreline.  Total trail distance is under 1 mile.
