Noteworthy invites everyone to come celebrate the season at its “Magic of Christmas” concert.
“This may be the most varied program of Christmas music we’ve ever attempted,” said Noteworthy director Joan Petrelius. “Our songs range from a 16th-century carol to favorites from holiday movies and TV, but they all remind us of the love and joy that underlie the Christmas season.”
The only women’s barbershop chorus in the Copper Country, Noteworthy is recognized for its intricate, a cappella harmonies and fun, accessible melodies.
The program ranges from the ancient English melody “Coventry Carol,” to the World War II classic “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” to the Carpenters’ “Merry Christmas Darling,” released in 1970.
Other favorites include "Christmastime Is Here,” from “A Charlie Brown Christmas”; “Where Are You Christmas,” from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”; “Jingle Bell Rock”; and a powerful rendition of “What Child Is This?” mingled with a haunting 1994 ballad, “Child of the Poor.”
Admission is free. Noteworthy always takes a free-will offering for local charities during its concerts, and this Christmas the beneficiary is the Portage Health Foundation, which will allocate all donations to Copper Country flood relief. “It seemed like a perfect fit for this time of year, when we are reminded to love and care for our neighbors,” Petrelius said.
Noteworthy will be welcoming new members in January and invites all women who enjoy singing to come to the concert for an introduction to barbershop music. For more information, contact Petrelius at 906-482-5088 or email@example.com.
