Trail Conditions

This is the Keweenaw Snowmobile Trail System Report for Friday, March 24, 2017.

Snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open and trails are in late season condition. Groomers will go out as weather permits.

We are unable to groom on Trail #3 between the Portage Lift Bridge and South Range due to extremely low snow cover.  Trails south of South Range to Twin Lakes are still being groomed.  There are several spots that are bare and have low snow cover so use caution. Snow base ranges 0 to 16" in the wooded areas.  Road crossings in town are bare.

There is a beaver dam on South Freda that may let go soon so use caution.  The area is flagged.

All of trail #122 is closed for logging.

Remember when you’re out on the trails to watch out for the groomers.  They have the right away.  Use caution around logging areas.

The Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau asks that you stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, drive safely.  The signs on the trails are there for riders’ safety so please DO NOT remove or destroy them.

Maasto Hiihto/Churning Rapids – Four Season Chalet is closed for the season. Trails will no longer be groomed. Portable toilets will remain at trailheads through next weekend. (3/21/17)

Michigan Tech – No grooming today due to the rain. We will assess trail conditions and weather today for Saturday grooming. (3/24/17)

Swedetown – Grooming was suspended for today due to warm temperatures. The trails, however, are in very good condition, with a slight cover of wintry mix (<1/8″). The skate lanes are firm, as well as the tracks, although the tracks may be fast in places due to the slight overnight accumulation. We are hoping to till and track the system as overnight temperatures drop. (3/24/17)

Twin Lakes State Park – Good spring conditions. (3/15/17)
