The Keweenaw offers some of the most unique riding in the state. The rocky and rugged terrain of the peninsula offers scenic vistas, wooded single tracks, dramatic uphills and downhills, and DNR rail-trails.

Swedetown Trails
A moderately difficult trail of rolling hills along wide ski trails. There are 16.3km of single track, 5.2km of 2 track and 2.7km of mixed track. To reach the trailhead, take the Swedetown Road off US-41 in Calumet to the Swedetown chalet/parking lot.

Chassell Trails
This is a private trail system that is open to non-motorized use. Loops may be incomplete due to farming activity--please stay out of newly planted fields. Trail begins at the Chassell Heritage Center on Hancock Street in Chassell and runs for 7 miles of rolling, moderate terrain through woods and fields. No signs in the summer.

Copper Harbor Trail System
This trail systems has various loop lengths with over 25 miles of designated singletrack trails. Trails offer natural obstacles, challenging climbs and fun downhills along scenic streams, woods and rock bluffs. Riders may park at the Copper Harbor Welcome Center to access the trailhead. Vehicles, hikers and other bikers may be encountered at any time, so please be courteous and aware of your surroundings.

Churning Rapids
Churning Rapids is a private trail system open to non-motorized use. Several loops offer distances up to 12 miles of moderate to difficult trails featuring woods, bridges, bogs, streams and fun singletrack. To reach trailhead, take M-203 north from Hancock 4.5 miles to Christensen Road, which you follow to the designated trailhead. Other bikers, hikers and horses may be present...please stay off trails during early spring and other wet times of the year.
Jack Stevens Trail
This trail runs for 14 miles from the Portage Lift Bridge in Hancock to just south of M-203 in Calumet on the former Soo Line railroad grade. Suggested trail heads include the Swedetown Ski Trail site on Osceola Road in Calumet, Porvoo Park in Hancock, the Houghton County Airport on US-41 and the Houghton County Historical Museum in Lake Linden. Trail terrain is easy with mostly sand and gravel surface, not suitable for narrow tires. Trail is also open to ATV traffic.

Bill Nicholls Rail Trail
This trail links Houghton to Mass City, a distance of 41 miles on the former Copper Range Railroad grade. Suggested trailheads include Houghton Beach, South Range at the M-26 crossing, Toivola, Twin Lakes State Park and Mass City. The grade crosses the branches of the Firesteel River with 3 bridges that are 65, 75, & 85 feet high. Surface is relatively flat is mostly sand, some gravel and clay, not suitable for narrow tire use. Trail is also open to off-road vehicles.
Michigan Tech Recreational Forest
This trail system offers two distinct trail areas with distances up to 18 miles of marked and unmarked single tracks and widened ski trails. Trail head is located off US-41 on the Michigan Tech campus. Take MacInnes Drive/Sharon Avenue to trailhead or Sharon Avenue from M-26 to trailhead. This is moderate difficulty with rolling hills. Some ski trails are closed to biking, please obey signage.
