Central
Located just north of US-41 approximately 4 miles north of Phoenix. The community, now a part of the Keweenaw County Historic Society Museum Complex, was settled around the Central Mining Company in 1854. It's population went from 1,300 in 1887 to 100 in 1905.
Self-guided walking tours are available at the Historic Society's visitor center. Visitor Center open daily from 9 am to 5 pm early June to mid-October.

Central Mine & Village
The Keweenaw County Historic Society has two hiking trails through the historic Central Mine site, 1/4 and 1/2 miles long through the woods. Central Mine operated from 1854 to 1898. Maps are available at the Visitor Center which is open seasonally.
DIRECTIONS: From Hancock take US-41 north approximately 28 miles to Central. Turn left. The visitor center and parking lot are on the left. The Central site is open year round, so please respect the privacy of dwelling occupants.

Central Mine Residential Site
Now a part of the Keweenaw County Historical Society, Central was a mining village of over 1200 people from 1854 to 1898. Many of the residence exteriors have been restored and a visitors center provides interpretive exhibits about Central.
Self-guided walking tour maps are available at the Visitor Center.
The site is open year round. Please respect the privacy of dwelling occupants. The Visitor Center is open early June to mid-October from 10 am to 5 pm.

Central Mine Reunion
The annual reunion of the former Central Mine M.E. Church is held the last Sunday in July in the historic structure, 18 miles north of Calumet along US-41 in Keweenaw Count and features two services, the first at 9 am followed by an 11 am service. Gratiot Lake
The largest of Keweenaw Counties inland lakes, Gratiot is 1,438 acres with a maximum depth of 70 feet. Large northern pike, perch, tiger muskie and walleye lure anglers.
