The Upper Peninsula's Upper Peninsula

Michigan's Upper Peninsula has historically been the destination of those seeking adventure and relaxation. As mainland Michigan's northernmost point, the Keweenaw accentuates the features and conditions that make the U.P. attractive as well as those found in the boreal forests of the far north. **Fall color covers the Keweenaw. Mt. Ripley will be offering chair lift color tours Saturday, October 11 from noon to 6 pm and Mt. Bohemia will be offering chair lift color tours from 11 am to 5 pm on Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12.**

The Superior Influence

Here the pristine woods and waters of the north woods are influenced by an intimacy with Lake Superior. A dramatic contrast between water and land is created by Superior's awesome power. This influence is the source of much of the unique offerings of the Keweenaw. From the uncounted waterfalls cascading down the rugged landscape, to the 200 inches (average) of snowfall, to the spectacular sport fishing, the Keweenaw is most definitely a "Superior" region. **A walk in the fall woods of the Keweenaw can lead to unexpected beauty.**

An Island of Civilization in the Wilds of the U.P.

The Keweenaw also provides a rich cultural atmosphere generated by the presence of two universities and a dynamic blend of ethnicity created by an immigration surge during the area's historic "Copper Boom." Many communities also celebrate their heritage and natural resources with tours, museums, festivals, and cultural activities. View a small piece of Keweenaw's rich history at Pasty.com . **Art is alive and well on the Keweenaw. "First Fridays in Calumet" offers special events, gallery openings and demonstrations in the arts community in the downtown area.**

Fall Color

Fall on the Keweenaw is here......cool nights, cobalt blue skies and spectacular color. Beginning with a tree here and a branch there, the color progresses to the bold and brilliant vistas of the sugar maples, birch and oaks of the northern forests that line our roadsides and fill our hillsides. Peak color on the Keweenaw is typically the end of September into the first of October, although there is usually color from mid-September into mid-October.
