Calumet

The first ever CopperDog 150 sled-dog race (the culminating "triple crown" of Lake Superior sled-dog racing) will be held in Calumet March 12-14, 2010, a joint event with the 30th annual Portage Health Great Bear Chase cross-country ski race.

The CopperDog 150 10-dog pro-class race will begin on Friday evening at 7 pm, when onlookers can witness the action-packed start in downtown Calumet. The route will take them throught the Keweenaw peninsula, including a mandatory layover in Gay and a stage rest in Copper Harbor, before culminating in an exciting finish on the streets of Calumet on Sunday afternoon around 1 pm.

The 30-Mile Recreational-Class Race begins immediately following the main event on Friday with the finnish in downtown Gay between 9 and 11 pm. Mushers, volunteers, and spectators will be able to purchase treats such as chili, hot dogs, chips, coffee, hot chocolate, pop, bottle water, doughnuts and assorted sweets.
