Celebrate the mid-point of winter with a series of Finnish related activities on Friday, January 16 and Saturday, January 17 in Hancock. Classes in Finnish cooking & baking, squeaky cheese making, fan birds, birch bark weaving, Kantele, tango and wheat weaving will be held. Events include the "Karhu Tanssi" (Bear Dance); Club Finndigo dinner and a movie at the Calumet Theatre; a parade through downtown Hancock starting followed by boot-throwing and wife-carrying contests; a Tori Market at the Finnish American Heritage Center on Quincy Street; a polar bear dive on the Hancock waterfront; a reindeer camp on the Hancock Middle School lawn; an authentic Finnish buffet at Finlandia Hall followed by a tanssit (dance). On Sunday a St. Henrik's Commemorative Church Service will be held at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on West Quincy Street.
