ATV Trails

ATV trails on the Keweenaw run from Mass City in the south to Copper Harbor in the north.

Trails from Mass City to Calumet are State of Michigan DNR Rail-Trails and are multi-use.  A police escort by the City of Houghton police is necessary to cross the Portage Lift Bridge.Trails north of Calumet are for ATV's and side-by-sides only. No jeeps, pickups, full-size vehicles, converted 4X4s or dirt bikes. 

The following trail head locations have parking available: Copper Harbor, AmericInn of Calumet, The Vansville Bar in Phoenix, The Ramada Inn of Hancock, Lac La Belle Lodge, and Kauppi's Marina in Gay.

Jack Stevens Trail

This trail runs for 14 miles from the Portage Lift Bridge in Hancock to just south of M-203 in Calumet on the former Soo Line railroad grade.  Trail terrain is easy with mostly sand and gravel surface, not suitable for narrow tires.  Trail is also open to ATV traffic.

Suggested trail heads include the Swedetown Ski Trail site on Osceola Road in Calumet, Porvoo Park in Hancock, the Houghton County Airport on US-41 and the Houghton County Historical Museum in Lake Linden.
